Increments and Releases
Incremental Approach
The contract was established using an incremental approach. This
was done to de-risk the programme and to enable the MoD some
flexibility in defining it's future requirements based on changing
operational and business drivers, as well as affording the
opportunity to ensure continued value for money. To date ATLAS has
been awarded the following DII Increments:
Increment 1
ATLAS was awarded the contract for Increment 1 of DII(F) in
March 2005. Rollout of Increment 1 will cover nearly 70,000 UADs
(terminals) and 200,000 user accounts at 680 locations across
Defence, driven by the requirements of the Defence Change
Programme.
Increment 2a
ATLAS was awarded Increment 2a in December 2006 to incorporate
nearly 44,000 additional User Access Devices (UADs) and 58,000 User
Accounts.
Increment 2b
ATLAS was awarded Increment 2b in September 2007. Increment 2b
will extend DII into the deployed environment and operate at the
SECRET classification level, to include the provision of UADs to
support deployed operations.
Increment 2c
ATLAS was awarded Increment 2c in January 2009. This Increment
extends the DII(F) footprint into the Above Secret domain and will
support a number of key Operations and Intelligence Users across
the MOD. Ultimately it will replace a number of legacy systems and
is a vital part of the Department's wider initiative to improve
intelligence gathering and exploitation, known as the Defence
Intelligence Modernisation Programme.
Increment 3a
ATLAS was awarded Increment 3a in December 2009. This
Increment will provide 42,000 computer terminals operating in
the Restricted and Secret domains to the remaining MoD fixed sites,
replacing outdated and expensive legacy systems. This improved
capability will support some 60,000 personnel, notably within the
Royal Air Force, at Joint Helicopter Command and other MoD
locations.
